Come July, the Adirondack Mountains summer is getting into full swing and the activities around Lake Placid & White Mountain heat up along with the weather. Events include:

Ford Ironman USA Triathlon
Ironman SwimAthletes take a 2.4-mile, two-loop swim on scenic Mirror Lake, located in Lake Placid. |
Ironman BikingAthletes take a 112-mile, two-loop ride on smooth roads, including a 9-kilometer downhill run, plenty of rolling hills and a few small "chainring climbs." The bike ride takes riders between the Downhill Grill & the IGA, with views of the Olympic Ski Jump, through Keene, Jay and & Wilmington, where there are views of Whiteface Mountain. |
Ironman RunAthletes run a 26.2-mile, two-loop course that is spectator-friendly. Runners go past the Olympic Ski Jump, through Main Street in Lake Placid and end the race at the Olympic Speedsakating Oval, Eric Heiden Won five Olympic gold medals back in 1980. |

August, 2008 Events
In August, the Adirondack Mountains are in the peak of summer's beauty and the activities around Lake Placid & White Mountain are a big draw.
Bud Light Can-Am Rugby Tournament - Lake Placid (Aug 1-3)
100 rugby teams converge on Lake Placid in the Adirondacks to participate in the Bud Light Can-Am Rugby Tournament, one of the largest rugby events in the world (the largest, in fact, in the Western Hemisphere). Eight divisions (including Women and Old Boys) compete on the playing fields at Saranac Lake Middle School and Lake Placid High School Fields at The North Elba Show Grounds. The finals are played at the North Country Community College in Saranac Lake. Admission to all of the games is free.

Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Tournament (Aug 10-13)
Cheer on 92 lacrosse teams, representing all age ranges, as they compete in a thrilling tournament at the Lake Placid Athletic Fields at North Elba Horse Show Grounds, east of the Village of Lake Placid, at the Bark Eater Inn in the Town of Keene 2-3 miles east of the Cascade Lakes Picnic Area), and at the Lake Placid Elementary School in Keene.
